Will policing be necessary?
Do think of the Intranet realistically in much the same terms as paper systems - folks can post objectionable papers on bulletin boards, or email such material, or they can forge approval signatures - but for the most part they do not. Prudent oversight is wise, but keep it in perspective. The hope is for, and the value is in, sharing and collaboration. Let that happen.
Is the project sustainable over the long term?
This is a very important question as some Intranet projects have gone belly up after a period of time. What starts out with great promise and excitement becomes drudgery to maintain and users finding stale, useless content, don't bother to use the Intranet. Two keys to avoiding this fate are: One - put applications and information on the intranet that add value, that replace less efficient processes, that save time and effort and Two: delegate maintenance of the Intranet to those responsible for publishing information or those who process the paper forms, etc. By delegating, the work is lessened and those who are saving effort by using the Intranet have a vested interest in getting the information published.
